National debt is … complicated. The question is how clear defined national debt is. Every Euro-country in Europe is not allowed to have more as 3% debt of their GDP. Germany has to reduce the amount of debt even more by own laws. Nice, right?

But if you look closer, governments fool with debt. Greece collapsed and didn’t get punishments by the EU before, because they fool really, really much. Germany is fooling their own internal numbers to fit their own made laws (f.e. money need for unemployment is just “borrowed” to the unemployment agency – even if its clear that it will never get it back).

Yeah, Germany reduced their unemployment. Great! But they just fit some rules of most countrys in the world to reduce the official number. The inofficial one, the one where the state has to pay for, is much higher.

I have the feeling like this is an ongoing trend.

Another problem you can see in Europe is what the goals of the government is. Allowed deficit limit is 3%. All the countrys fight to be in the 3% more debt a year. Why not to be on 0% or 1% plus?

I think that the finance market will crash sooner or later totally due of government debt. They push billions in the finance market, cut much in other areas and forget that they have to pay more interest in one year.

Politics is not about the people anymore. Politics is about the biggest lobby (even in countrys with direct votes like in Switzerland people can be manipulated really much by some partys as we have seen in the last yeNational debt is … complicated. I just hope it will crash soon, else the problems gets bigger and bigger and the crash will be harder. It would be better for our children. But I think even then USA and other countrys won’t announce there M3 (Mandrake mechanism) rate anymore… good to not know how less the Dollar is worth these days… and all the other currencys. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. I edited your comment, not to change what you said at all but because it looked like it had gotten copied and pasted so it was twice as long. I just took out the duplicates; no other changes!

Isn’t “raising your voice” without presenting any suggestions for a solution just called complaining? No one is happy about the national debt, not even Congress. I don’t think much good will come from only drawing attention to the debt, unless solutions or even broad ideas for improvement are presented. I appreciate that MomThink is trying to be involved in an mportant issue, but they need to present facts and actually educate women, more than just trying to scare people by showing big numbers or with cartoon videos that don’t make sense (what are all of the things “the people want but don’t need” from the video).

I disagree that raising awareness about an issue is akin to complaining. As
I said, there are plenty of suggestions for a solution between us, but we’re
working together to educate women with facts (those big scary numbers are
FACTS) rather than arguing about which is the right answer. However, we as
individuals can’t do anything about the debt. The change has to come from
elected officials. Congress focuses on the issues that they think the people
care the most about, so raising awareness about this one makes it a higher
      priority on agenda.

I think leaving a comment without your name is called trolling. Friendly
debate and disagreement is always welcome, but if you’re not confident
enough about what you’re saying to sign your name, you maybe shouldn’t say
      it.

I do worry about the national debt. I feel like this country is on a freight train towards a brick wall. Just last night on the news, Sen. Reid wants to pass a huge spending bill before everything changes in Jan. It’s like Washington doesn’t get it. Both parties are like drunken sailors with ATM cards.

I have been thinking about the debt problem lately that I am rethinkng my own family’s future. Should we put even more into emergency savings rather than towards home-improvements? When everything crashes or collapses, how badly will it affect us?

I am by no means an educated politician, I won’t claim to understand how the debt and everything works together, and I sure don’t have the “answer”. One thing I think has contributed to this mess is that most (not all) Americans got so comfortable and enjoyed all the benefits and niceties that this country holds. We took it for granted, and we also forgot what the truly important things in life are.
I know this is not an solution, but a couple of things we need to try on a personal basis is to reduce our consumption, choose things that are important to us, and when we buy, try to buy from local businesses or smaller businesses. People who are unemployed need to consider the options they may have to start their own business instead of sending out dozens of resumes in hopes that the economy will pick up and someone will them.
    Just my rambling 2 cents…
