Evernote is a fantastic tech tool that can help you get a grip on all the loose ends in your life. You simply install it on your computer and smartphone, and it will quickly develop into your digital file cabinet. Below, I have listed 7 examples of ways I use Evernote in my everyday life.

Shot Records

It is always at the most random and inconvenient times I get caught needing one of my kids shot records. With my records saved electronically their shot records are with me wherever I go.

Babysitting File

It seems that every time we have a babysitter planned that it is total chaos beforehand. Keeping a babysitting file on hand with the bedtime routine and emergency information makes it simple to get out the door. I just email over the info to the babysitter. This is especially handy in the event of an emergency.

Vacation Planning

Planning a vacation for a family is no simple task. Finding a place to stay, making travel plans and keeping track of the paperwork. Not to mention the work to get everyone out the door. I keep all my lists with everything we need to get packed in Evernote. It is so easy to share notes. I can send them over to my husband too.

Honey Do List

Family life is pretty busy, but it doesn’t stop those nagging tasks from needing to get done. Weekends in our house get pretty crammed. So, when there is time to get things accomplished, it is easiest to pull out my on-going “honey do” list. Always having this information it makes our trips to Lowes, Target and grocery store much more efficient.

Home/Property Management

Managing your home or multiple homes is a lot of work. However, there is massive amounts of time to be saved by tracking all your home information through a paperless system. You can put warranty info, appliance info, leases, paperwork, pictures, and repair contacts all in Evernote. This allows you to easily and promptly deal with any home situation that occurs.

Kids’ Artwork

I love all the awesome artwork and projects that my kids bring home from school, however, I can’t stand all the clutter of the paper. I save the absolute best of the best. The rest I snap a photo of, save in Evernote and throw it away guilt free.

Kids’ Activities Schedules

Keeping up with the back and forth of all the kids is exhausting. School schedules, sports information are all saved in Evernote. That way no matter where I am I can reference these events that we need to work around.

If you would like to learn more information on getting up and running with Evernote and organizing everything within, check out my ebook, Evernote for Moms. It is a quick and easy read designed to get you started in one afternoon.

So, what other lists and notes do you store on Evernote?   I’d love to hear how you use this tool to make your life easier.

I use Evernote for so many things!  I have notebooks/stacks for family history research, homeschool…everything, recipes, medical (rx numbers to refill, medicines the kids are on, etc – all notes that I find myself needing at my fingertips regularly), blogging, our family bucket list, funny things the kids say, movies we own so I don’t pick up a great deal only to find out the kids already have that particular one, and my newest use of Evernote is as a replacement for Pinterest.  I pulled so much off Pinterest when I understood their terms of service better and now only pin things that that the creator has given permission for me to share (with a pin it/share it button on their blog, etc).  But what to do with all the amazing things I see and want to hold onto?  Text bookmarks just won’t do it for me.  So I organize it all in Evernote with a home decor stack, style inspiration, quotes, holiday ideas and more. It took me a while to really see the benefit of Evernote but I would be lost without it these days as it’s given me a great place to sync and access so much of my information from anywhere – I love that Evernote can be used completely privately as well so no one else sees and has access to what you post but you.  Sorry…just realized I wrote my own mini-post about this.

I also use Evernote instead of Pinterest for many things. I had used it before Pinterest came out and when I realized that Pinterest is only bookmarking web pages I was afraid that some day the link may break or move. How then would I find that recipe or DIY instructions? So, Evernote is much better for that. It save the instructions and the link, plus I can access it even when I’m not connected to the internet.  I enjoy Pinterest for what it is – a visual bulliten board, but I also try to educate people to not rely on it to save their ideas. Use Evernote instead! :)

My favorite Evernote function is ‘Copy note link’.  It allows you to hyperlink from one note to another.  I use this for meal planning.  Eah week I have a standard note listing what is on the menu for each day and then I hyperlink the recipe (I have a whole notebook of recipes I’ve clipped, typed or scanned) to that day. When I am ready to cook I just click on the link for Monday, for example, and I instantly have the recipe I need.

       Marjorie, another great tip, thanks!

So I take it you have the Premium account? Or can it all be done with the free one? Thank you for this great post.

    • Getmegeeky

Megan, you can do this with the Free account. However the free account does have a limit on size (so it depends how much you put in there) and the Premium offers some nice perks with regards to sharing notebooks. I always recommend people start free and see if they grow into Premium. Hope that helps!

Thanks for this! I downloaded Evernote after hearing over and over how great it was, but I wasn’t sure how to make it work for me. Looking forward to reading your ebook for Moms.

I like Evernote, but I still use Facebook to store photos of my son’s artwork – that way, all my family & friends can see it :-)

I know this is a little old, but on my iPad, Evernote crashes all the time. It was very frustrating, so I quit using it. Has anyone else had this problem?

I just emailed Lauren to see if she might know the answer…that sounds frustrating!!

      Hi Sara
Try deleting your Evernote app from your iPad. It shouldn’t delete any of your information as long as you have synced recently. Then restart your iPad and reinstall your Evernote app. Sometimes there Is a glitch in the download of apps and a fresh start will do the trick.

      Hope that helps!
